Bengaluru hospital portico collapses, 4 injured

The under-construction portico of St. Martha’s Hospital on Nrupathunga Road in Bengaluru collapsed on May 31, 2022. Four persons were trapped under the debris.

The portico collapsed around 6.30 am.

Three fire tenders and an earthmover were pressed into service to rescue the trapped labourers. Fire and emergency service personnel shifted the labourers to the hospital. The condition of one of the labourers is serious, a police officer said.

The injured labourers are Moididin, Chand Pasha, Rafi Sab ad Basavaraj from Raichur in north Karnataka.

The Halasuru Gate police visited the spot to supervise the rescue operation.

Work on the portico began around a month ago. Patients were not affected because they had been told to avoid the spot on account of the construction work.
