Bengals WR Tyler Boyd adds more fuel to rivalry with the Chiefs

The rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals continues to grow stronger with every meeting and classic AFC Championship game. The marquee names are at quarterback with Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes as they now enter the 2023 season with another shared bond after Orlando Brown Jr. signed with Cincinnati this off-season.

The departure of Brown to the Bengals was shocking for many critics and followers of the AFC rivalry over the past two seasons. The situation was so surprising that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce mourned the loss on a recent episode of the New Heights podcast with brother Jason.

Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd is enjoying the signing and is using it as another reason to poke at the Chiefs ahead of their much anticipated Week 17 matchup at Arrowhead Stadium.

“We have a nice little rivalry with the Chiefs,” Boyd said to reporters on Tuesday. “To see him come over. And I was like, ‘Yeah, we one-upped y’all.’ but at the end of the day, he’s a great player, no matter where he went. He’s probably one of the best at his position, you know, and just adding him to what we got already. You know, it’s gonna allow Joe (Burrow) to have more time, and it’s going to give us the will to put up those points. So I’m just happy to have him.”

Boyd also spoke about his own involvement in the budding rivalry, insisting that had he been healthy for the AFC Championship Game, Cincinnati would have won the game.

“Still to this day, I feel like if I would have played the whole game, I was the key factor,” Boyd said. “We would’ve won the game.”

The Chiefs and Bengals are scheduled to meet on New Year’s Eve late in the regular season, but there is always the expectation they could meet again in the postseason. A third straight AFC title game at Arrowhead Stadium will have fans on either side seeking a finality to the rivalry.
