Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson led the NFL in sacks with 17.5 this season, establishing him as a favorite for the Defensive Player of the Year award at the NFL Honors on Thursday night.
Hendrickson almost sacked that, too. But the award went to Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, with Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Myles Garrett the other major nominee. He finished second in the voting.

Hendrickson’s 17.5 sacks matched his output from his superb 2023 season, too. Since joining the Bengals in 2021, he’s tallied a gaudy 57 sacks.
Like his fellow Bengals teammates who were up for awards on Thursday night, Hendrickson next turns his attention to his contract and the ultimatum he just gave the front office about his future with the team.
