Bengals possible target La’el Collins could slip to free agency soon

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to be in the market for offensive line help and one more potential target may soon hit the open market.

The latest buzz surrounding Dallas Cowboys OL La’el Collins is that it may be doubtful the team actually is able to trade him and will eventually just release him, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News.

Collins still has three years left on his contract and is due to make $10 million each year, a reasonable amount for an offensive tackle.

It was recently reported that the Bengals were interested in Collins, along with the Jaguars, Broncos and Dolphins. He’d be a big upgrade at right tackle and fill a third need after the signings of Ted Karras and Alex Cappa upgraded two interior spots.

The Bengals were sitting at about $21 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, but by the time of this writing, the B.J. Hill contract had not yet been accounted for on the team’s OTC page.

A player of Collins’ caliber on a very team-friendly deal raises questions as to why no team has made a move for him yet and what he might actually command as a free agent, so it’s worth monitoring what unfolds in Dallas soon.
