Cincinnati Bengals coaches and players had plenty of interesting comments in the days leading up to the game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Notably, Bengals coaches revealed two players they think fans can expect to see more of soon — two rookies, to be exact.
Plus, with the NFL trade deadline still hanging in the background of the big cross-conference matchup, we took a look at one team the Bengals should pick up the phone and call before the deadline actually arrives.
That primer out of the way, here’s a look at the must-know Bengals news, notes and quotes for October 27.
Bengals should call the Titans -- Bengals Wire
A quick look at why the Bengals should call the already-selling Titans. It’s hardly about Derrick Henry, too — the Titans have a pair of very good defensive linemen they might be willing to sell, plus a former LSU player of note.
More Chase Brown on the way? -- Bengals Wire
Based on comments from Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, fans should expect to see more of rookie running back Chase Brown soon. The coaches sound tired of waiting for somebody to emerge behind Joe Mixon.
More Myles Murphy too? -- Bengals Wire
Bengals fans haven’t seen a lot of first-rounder Myles Murphy just yet, but based on comments from coaches, that’s about to change, too. With a mind for keeping Trey Hendrickson healthy all season, he could see an uptick in play very soon.
Bengals are upset pick of the week -- Bengals Wire
One expert says the Bengals going on the road and beating the 49ers is the upset of the week and explains why. Keep in mind that, even with the 49ers injury news, odds still say the Bengals lose.
An old friend returns -- Bengals Wire
Just kidding — a referee the Bengals see often, including during their controversial Super Bowl appearance two years ago, will be in charge of Sunday’s game against the 49ers.
DJ Reader on what time it is for Bengals -- Bengals.com
DJ Reader on what this stretch out of the bye means to this team: “You hope you’re getting better as a team. You try to get though the season getting better and pick up steam as the season goes. We’re trying to play our best ball when it’s time. Its playoff cutting time.”
Brian Callahan on what the bye week means for the coaches -- Bengals.com
Some very interesting insight from Callahan, who has openly criticized his offense during the bye week and made it clear changes will happen: “It does help us to take a step back and take more of a 30,000-foot view of what’s gone on. Sometimes when you’re in the middle of the week-to-week, you can’t always see all those things. I think we’ve been really good at that over the last handful of years. It’s been one of our strengths, I think, as a coaching staff. Our players respond to the bye really well, too. They come back fresh and energized and Zac does a great job managing that part of it for them. You just feel a different energy in the building when you get a couple days off.”
Tee Higgins on the love fans showed after his mother's accident
I asked Tee Higgins how his mom (@adizlady) is doing since the car accident & about the love/support shown to his mom in recent weeks.
"A little bruised up, but she's still got that smile on her face & that's all I could ask for."
