Another link for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams in the aftermath of the Super Bowl — the Rams cost the Bengals $7.5 million.
The Rams technically cost every team in the NFL that total, meaning a cool $232.5 million. The funds came from each team’s revenue-sharing payments.
This stems from a legal spat between Rams owner Stan Kroenke and the rest of the NFL pertaining to the legal costs involved in moving the team from St. Louis to Los Angeles.
We can probably guess the Bengals were one of the teams not exactly thrilled by this development, as noted by Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic:
“The team executives described surprise at the move and complained that the action had caused budgeting issues because of the sudden charge and not knowing whether the money would be returned if Kroenke is ordered by the NFL to pay the whole sum.”
There’s apparently no clarity on whether teams will get this cash back if Kroenke pays up.
