Bengals, Joe Mixon agree to restructured contract

The Cincinnati Bengals and running back Joe Mixon have agreed to a restructured contract.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the deal will free up cap space for the Bengals while also keeping Mixon in town for the 2023 season.

Cutting Mixon would have saved the Bengals roughly $10 million against the cap. Instead, the Bengals end the speculation by approaching Mixon and his reps and making something work before training camp starts.

The move was an easy one to see coming given Cincinnati’s lack of movement at the position this offseason after losing Samaje Perine in free agency. That, plus the logistics of needing as much cap space as possible before probable extensions for the likes of Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins, Logan Wilson and others.

A statement from Mixon’s agent accompanied the news:

An offer for Bengals fans
