The fallout for the Cincinnati Bengals after the season’s end continues as the NFL playoffs get underway.
This week, the Bengals offered a few notable injury updates on key players as they head for the offseason, starting with kicker Evan McPherson.
McPherson, who ended the season by missing the last five games due to a groin injury, says he had hoped to be good to go for a playoff game on wild card weekend.
“I was going to test it and see how my body felt. I was optimistic,” McPherson said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “The best thing to do is rest, rehab, and make sure everything re-connects itself back to 100 percent and go from there,” McPherson said of the advice. “I’m trying to understand ways to fix it and prevent it, and better understand my body a little bit more, and going through this is going to help me a lot.”
Running back Chase Brown told Hobson that he would have been good to go for a playoff game: “I wouldn’t have missed that game. I wouldn’t have missed it. I definitely could have gone.” …
The writeup also notes rookie right tackle Amarius Mims, who gritted through a broken hand to help pitch a shutout of Pittsburgh Steelers superstar T.J. Watt. All indications are that there will be a standard offseason of healing before he resumes the starting gig next year.
In all, not a bad set of injury updates to start an offseason, though all involved surely wished they were testing out the injuries before a playoff game this weekend.
