Until they get something done, if they even can, the Cincinnati Bengals will keep seeing Tee Higgins’ name pop up in rumors while mock drafts project them to draft a replacement.
The logic of drafting a replacement certainly isn’t misguided, either, given the latest developments on the shocking Jermaine Burton situation.
One new mock draft example of this comes from Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer, who has them picking Missouri wideout Luther Burden III at No. 17:
The Bengals may want to try to keep Tee Higgins along with extending Ja’Marr Chase with a lucrative contract, but Higgins might end up being too expensive. Burden can be a strong cheap contingency to play well off Chase as an immediate impact No. 2.
Going from Higgins’ big-bodied game to the 5’11” Burden would cause some necessary adjustments to the offense — but it would be pretty interesting, too. The Tigers star, after all, just put up 2,200-plus yards and 21 scores while averaging nearly 12 yards per catch over three seasons.
Luther is one of many notable mid-first-round weapons the Bengals could look at if things go south with Higgins.
