Bengals expected to keep RB Joe Mixon

As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals aren’t expected to move on from running back Joe Mixon despite speculation his big contract would subject him to restructure-or-cut scenarios.

Jeremy Fowler appeared on “SportsCenter” (h/t Bleacher Report’s Joseph Zucker) as the Bengals get ready to start OTAs and said “there hasn’t been a lot of momentum around” a Mixon cut.

In April, a report suggested the Bengals could still ask Mixon to take a pay cut, but comments from Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan around that time made it seem unlikely.

If cut, Mixon would save the team roughly $10 million, but the draft cemented the idea as unlikely. The Bengals added Chase Brown in the fifth round, but he’s in line to compete with Trayveon Williams for the right to back up Mixon, not take over the backfield.

Off-field legal issue notwithstanding, the two parties could still come together and restructure in a way that saves the Bengals cap if necessary, but it has been apparent for a while Mixon’s not leaving the team.

An offer for Bengals fans
