Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee dies at 58; know about his health condition

Abhishek Chatterjee, a well known name in Bengali film industry, died at the age of 58. He was unwell for some time now, according to a few reports. Though there has been no official statement on his death, reports suggest he suffered a heart attack.

On the death of Abhishek Chatterjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has tweeted: “Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee . Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends.”

Heart attack is a medical emergency where a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the heart subsequently cutting off blood and oxygen to the heart tissues.

As per the data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of the 17.9 million deaths that occured in 2019 due to various heart related diseases, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke. The WHO report also states that heart related diseases account for 38% premature deaths worldwide.

Experts have suggested that cardiovascular disease can be prevented if these are detected early and if people incorporate healthy lifestyle activities in their daily life.

"The most important behavioural risk factors of heart disease and stroke are unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol. The effects of behavioural risk factors may show up in individuals as raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose, raised blood lipids, and overweight and obesity," says the WHO report.

Signs and symptoms of Heart attack

It is very essential to know the symptoms of a heart attack so that the patient gets medical help on time. The common symptoms of heart attack are pain in the centre of the chest which seems to spread quickly to arms, left shoulder, elbows, jaw and back. The patient will experience numbness in face, arm and leg; will be confused and will have difficulty in speaking; will have blurred vision; will be unable to walk and stand; have severe headache and faint.

Though heart attack comes to many all of a sudden, in many other cases the symptoms start showing days and weeks ahead. One of the most common signs of heart attack which is chest pain is experienced by many people many days before. These people experience pain that happens during some physical activity and goes away during rest.

Hypertension, which is a major reason for heart related diseases, is often ignored. As per a report, the number of adults aged 30–79 years with hypertension has increased from 650 million to 1.28 billion in the last thirty years.

One should also be aware of the surroundings and immediately help a person if he or she is showing signs of heart attack. One should help the person sit down and calm them. Speak to the patient and assure that medical help will reach on time and doctors will take care of everything.
