Benfica vs Liverpool: Prediction, kick off time, TV, live stream, team news and h2h results - match preview

Liverpool travel to Benfica tonight in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

On each of the two previous occasions the sides have met at this stage of the competition, the team from Merseyside claimed victory in both legs and went on to lift the trophy.

In 1978, Emlyn Hughes and Jimmy Case struck in Lisbon to help set up the Reds’ eventual victory over Brugge at Wembley. Four years later, a 5-1 aggregate victory secured passage towards their famous triumph in Rome.

Jurgen Klopp has already lifted the Champions League with Liverpool and is still chasing an unprecedented quadruple this term after downing Inter Milan in the last round, before a routine domestic victory over Watford at the weekend.

They also won the Carabao Cup in February and meet Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley soon.

Benfica, meanwhile, shocked Ajax in the last-16 yet sit third in the Primeira Liga and are well off the pace in that title fight.

Benfica vs Liverpool prediction

The Reds managed to get the job done in the away leg back in the last-16, despite not playing particularly well at Inter Milan. On this occasion, they face a Benfica team more than happy to cause an upset.

Still, betting against Liverpool these days does not feel like the smartest of endeavours.

2-1 away win.
