Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt has confirmed an agreement is in place with Chelsea for the transfer of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
After an intensive day of talks between the two clubs, led on the Chelsea side by co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbal, a deal was struck that will see Chelsea pay in excess of £105million. That is a fee that will result in Fernandez becoming the club's record signing and the most expensive player in Premier League history.
Chelsea are still finalising the transfer – a deal sheet is understood to have been submitted to the Premier League – but Schmidt does not expect Fernandez to be part of his squad for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking to Sport TV after Benfica's 3-0 win over Arouca this evening, the German coach explained: "We talked about it [with Rui Costa], the deal is done, it's part of football but what matters is Benfica. Today I'm not going to talk about players who are no longer here.
"I'm happy with the players who are here, I like the team. attitude, and patience, they enjoy playing for Benfica. Benfica is a fantastic club and we are enjoying playing for Benfica immensely and we have tried everything to make the fans happy and in the end become champions."
