Bendy buses leaving Scottish city after 30 years

A SCOTTISH city is saying goodbye to bendy buses after more than 30 years.

The articulated buses, better known as bendy buses, served the number one and two routes in Aberdeen since

The routes serve many Robert Gordon University (RGU) students who study at the Garthdee campus.

A First Bus spokesperson said: “We can confirm the last bendy buses operating in our First Bus fleet in Aberdeen will be coming off the road at the end of today.

“They are operating on Service one and Service two throughout today.”

The last bus going from Garthdee towards Danestone will leave Bridge of Dee Court at 11.43pm, and the final bus from Danestone to Garthdee will depart from Wallacebrae Road at 10.57pm.

Bendy buses have been relatively uncommon in the UK, with their use primarily concentrated in London until their withdrawal by the end of 2011.

In May 2013, the last of First Glasgow's bendy buses were withdrawn. Several were transferred to Aberdeen.

While Lothian Buses conducted Edinburgh trials with articulated buses in 2005, the vehicles were not adopted for regular service.
