Ben Whittaker Speak For The First Time Since Liam Cameron Fight

British light-heavyweight contender Ben Whittaker hits back at critics in first interview since Liam Cameron fight. Thousands of boxing fans insisted Whittaker quit in his last fight against Whittaker, with many believing his reputation is in tatters in the aftermath.

Ben Whittaker Hits Back At Critics

British light-heavyweight star Ben Whittaker has spoken out for the first time since his controversial draw with Liam Cameron on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol undercard in Riyadh in October.

Whittaker faced fellow Brit Liam Cameron in a 175-pound contest, with the fight being deemed a technical draw after five rounds. However, the 27-year-old has been slated in the aftermath by boxing fans who feel Whittaker intentionally quit the fight.

Criticism piled in for the talented prodigy, with fans insisting he wanted a way out of the fight and simply didn’t want to be there. Whittaker’s opponent himself Cameron said he felt Whittaker quit as he knew the fight was getting away from him.

‘The Surgeon’ was sent tumbling over the top rope in the sixth round, crashing to the canvas outside of the ropes. Whittaker then received medical treatment in the ring for damage to his ankle and back, and was ultimately forced to leave the ring in a wheelchair.

The Wolverhampton fighter has now opened up for the first time since the incident, lashing out at critics maintaining he was factually injured and simply did not quit the fight:

“He pushed on me there was only so much I could take, my back was breaking.

“I landed on my ankle funny. Of course there is a lot of stick, ‘oh he threw himself over the rope’.

“I’m not Rey Mysterio, this isn’t WWE. If I wanted to make up an excuse, I’d say my neck or my back,” Whittaker told Seconds Out.

‘I Will Come Back, Beat His A** Up And Then Move On’ – Whittaker

Boxing fans are simply insisting that Ben Whittaker fights Liam Cameron next. No other fight makes sense, and running the Whittaker vs Cameron fight back is the only option for both fighters. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh will likely stage the fight on one of his Riyadh Season cards.

Cameron is now signed to Queensberry Promotions and Frank Warren, with Whittaker one of Ben Shalom’s stars at Boxxer, alongside the likes of Chris Eubank Jr and Chris Billam-Smith.

‘The Surgeon’ himself has revealed that once he has recovered from an injury, he wants to run it back with Cameron. Not only that, but the Olympic Silver Medallist believes he will put a beating on Cameron in their rematch:

“As in the video it looked like I landed on it funny. I went straight to the emergency room and had an MRI scan.

“It showed up an injury, the people around me saw the X-rays. I’ve done my rehab and now I’m back.

“Most of these people can’t get in the ring. I know what happened and I know the injury. I will come back, beat his a** up and then move on to the next,” Whittaker told Seconds Out.

Time will tell if the rematch happens next. It could well happen in March or April of 2025, with all eyes on Ben Whittaker’s next move and how he reacts to quitting criticism.
