Ben Whittaker Next Fight: Will 'The Surgeon' Rematch Cameron?

The Ben Whittaker next fight is a hot topic of conversation, with the undefeated light-heavyweight prospect coming under fire for ‘quitting’ in his last fight against Liam Cameron. Whittaker insists he suffered a fight-ending injury, and will right the wrongs if he rematches Cameron in early 2025.

Ben Whittaker Next Fight: When Will ‘The Surgeon’ Return?

Ben Whittaker was last in action on October 12th on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol undercard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old was last seen in action in a light-heavyweight contest against fellow Brit Liam Cameron, with the fight being deemed a technical draw after five rounds of action.

This was due to an injury Whittaker sustained during the fight, having been bundled over the top ropes WWE style before landing awkwardly on his ankle. ‘The Surgeon’ received a lot of criticism in the aftermath, with thousands of boxing fans labelling a quitter.

However, Whittaker denies all these quitting claims, and insists he was genuinely injured, leaving the ring in a wheelchair on the night. In his first interview since the incident, Whittaker has slammed critics and hit back at the negativity he received following the Cameron fight.

Now that his injury has healed, attentions have immediately turned to his next bout. Regarding the Ben Whittaker next fight, boxing fans are demanding he rematch Liam Cameron. No other fight will do, with ‘The Surgeon’ having a lot to prove after their first fight on the Beterbiev vs Bivol undercard in October.

Ben Whittaker now boasts a record of 8-0-1, with five wins via knockout. He is still a popular figure in British boxing, with promoter Eddie Hearn seemingly keen on signing him in the future once his deal with Ben Shalom/Boxxer is up.

As of today, an official return date is unknown for Whittaker. However, the Tokyo 2022 Olympic Silver Medallist is now back in training and fully recovered from his freak injury back in October. Now that he is back in training, all roads surely lead to a rematch with Liam Cameron in early 2025.

Who Else Could Ben Whittaker Fight In 2025 And Beyond?

Should Ben Whittaker’s next fight be the Liam Cameron rematch, it could likely land on one of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh‘s bumper Riyadh Season cards in March or April. Given that the first fight was in Saudi Arabia, it could make sense to have the rematch in Riyadh too.

If this isn’t the case, Frank Warren might stage the fight in the UK. Liam Cameron signed with Queensberry Promotions in the aftermath of the Whittaker fight, so that fight could even headline a show on TNT Sports/DAZN. Similarly it could land on a Sky Sports/Boxxer show too.

If Whittaker’s next fight is the Cameron rematch and he wins it, then all criticism will be forgotten. If he beats his fellow Brit in a rematch, then there could be some huge fights on the horizon later in 2025 and beyond for ‘The Surgeon’.

A fight with Dan Azeez has been talked about on more than one occasion, as has a potential bout with some of the other British 175-pound contenders. Light-heavyweight is a stacked division in the UK alone, with the likes of Callum Smith, Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Yarde, Willy Hutchinson and Lyndon Arthur also potential fights down the line.

Another option for Ben Whittaker’s next fight could be fights against the likes of Lewis Edmonton or Craig Richards, if Team Whittaker are willing to take a risk.

The best boxing betting sites in the UK will likely favour Whittaker going forward, until he reaches that next level of competition against his aforementioned British rivals. Particularly if he beats Liam Cameron in a rematch. Then, the Ben Whittaker hype-train will once again be full steam ahead.
