Ben White a surprise omission as Gareth Southgate includes two Arsenal stars in England squad

Ben White has failed to make it into the England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany. The 24-year-old has been a regular for Arsenal this season, starting every Premier League game, but has missed out on Gareth Southgate's group with Eric Dier, Conor Coady, Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, John Stones and Harry Maguire being included among the centre backs instead.

There are call-ups for Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka however. Ramsdale could be in line to stake his claim for a starting place ahead of November's Qatar World Cup with Jordan Pickford currently out injured.

Saka meanwhile has been an England regular since the Euros in the summer of 2021 and is in the group ahead of the likes of Jadon Sancho. Emile Smith Rowe has not made the group after failing to get regular enough game time following a groin injury that saw him miss much of preseason.
