A wildfire burning raging for more than 18 hours is believed to have been started by a lazily discarded cigarette.
The blaze was reported on Tuesday afternoon as a small fire on Ben Lomond before growing to more than a kilometre in length.
Fire crews working to control it last night were forced to abandon efforts owing to the difficult terrain in the area but have continued this morning.
Alarming footage yesterday showed the 974-metre high mountain engulfed in smoke as clouds billow into the sky, the Daily Record reported.
The National Trust for Scotland has urged visitors to stay away for the time being until it is safe.
They said: “Thanks to everyone for their support and concern about the wildfire on Ben Lomond.
“Fire intensity has decreased substantially overnight, but it is not yet extinguished.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are onsite this morning.
“We're very grateful for everyone's understanding at this time and ask people to please continue to avoid the area for now.”
The Ben Lomond Ranger Service repeated the message asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
Posting a clip on Facebook on Tuesday, they said: "The fire is along a 1km front, all probably from one dropped cigarette.
"It is going to take a lot of work to put out. Please share to spread awareness of the need to take care with cigarettes.
“Why we ask folks to take care with sources of ignition when in wild places.
“This hill fire…is burning through an area where natural regeneration of woodland was just starting to take place. There is no way down through the Ptarmigan path for the next while.
Another blaze, covering around 80 acres, was also reported south of Mallaig.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Operations control mobilised five appliances to the scene, where crews remain as they work to extinguish two fire fronts covering an area of approximately 80 acres.
"There are no reported casualties at this time."
The incidents follow similar wildfires reported in the Highlands last weekend.
Crews from Invergordon, Tain, Dornoch, Golspie, Lairg, Helmsdale and Cromarty extinguished a large wildfire near Invergordon.
Firefighters were also called to another nearby later on Sunday.
