Ben Foster opens up on Wrexham future as Ryan Reynolds conversation details emerge

Ben Foster hasn’t closed the door on extending his stay at Wrexham after helping them win promotion to League Two with a National League title win.

The 40-year-old Premier League veteran came out of retirement to play for Wrexham, a club he famously had a loan spell at in 2005 from Stoke City. Foster played seven times for Wrexham in the back stretch of the season, only failing to win in two games, while also saving a crucial penalty in the 3-2 crunch title win over rivals Notts County.

Wrexham secured the title and promotion to League Two with a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood, and the trophy presentation and wild boozy celebrations alongside Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney followed afterwards. And Foster, according to Fozcast co–host Tom Ochoa, told Reynolds : “Shall we do it against next year?”

Foster then confirmed on his podcast that continuing at Wrexham next season is under serious consideration. The former England international says he feels more part of Wrexham’s team than he did anywhere else.

“I don’t really know yet,” Foster said. “I really, really don’t know yet. I’ve got to say, I’ve played seven games now and I feel part of this team, probably [like] no other team I’ve been in.

“Genuinely, I’ve settled in so quickly, the lads are so good, the club as a whole is so welcoming, so warm, the fans have been incredible with me. That has genuinely sparked my interest like you would not believe, where I’m genuinely going to have to sit down and really think about this now.”

Foster continued: “I’ve got to give this genuine consideration because I’ve enjoyed this like you would not believe. And I think if you would have said to me sort of like six months ago, ‘You’ll go back and play football’, I’d have been like, ‘No chance! No way on this earth, I’m enjoying retirement too much, it’s too much fun’.

“But I have enjoyed this just as much and it’s made me go, ‘Ooo, okay. Yeah. Going to have to think about it’, genuinely I’m going to have to think about it.”

Wrexham conclude their National League campaign this weekend Torquay United.
