Ben Foster backs Wrexham to reach the Premier League by 2030

Former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster believes that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will guide the club to the Premier League by 2030.

Foster, who played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion to League Two in 2023, has praised the Hollywood duo’s leadership, commitment, and vision for the Welsh side.

Foster, who joined Wrexham briefly after coming out of retirement, witnessed firsthand the impact of the co-owners’ passion for the club.

In his short tenure, Foster helped the Red Dragons secure the National League title, ending a 15-year absence from the Football League.

Although he retired again the following season, Wrexham’s momentum has continued, and the team is now flourishing in League One, sitting second on the table, tied on points with leaders Wycombe.

Wrexham’s Premier League Ambitions

Wrexham’s rise under McElhenney and Reynolds has captured global attention.

The co-owners have publicly declared their ambition to see the club ascend to the Premier League, competing with giants like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

Foster believes this goal is within reach and credits McElhenney’s determination and Reynolds’ calm demeanour as key factors.

Speaking to Will Brazier in a YouTube interview, Foster shared his admiration for the pair. “It’s lovely because they’re so sound,” Foster said.

“It’s exactly what you see in the documentary. I think I’d have been a little bit disappointed if, when I got to meet them, they were completely different, or they were whoppers. But they’re not, they’re just like normal people.”

Foster highlighted McElhenney’s intelligence and drive, paired with Reynolds’ laid-back nature and humility despite his global fame.

“Rob is very clever, and he’s very driven. Ryan is just so laid back and calm, and it’s almost like he gets embarrassed by the fame. He doesn’t really like the spotlight so much.” Foster said.

“They’re such nice people, and they really care about the club. They really care about the community, and it wouldn’t surprise me if you see them in the Premier League in five or six years’ time.”

The Hollywood stars’ involvement in the club extends beyond the football pitch.

Their genuine care for the Wrexham community has been a cornerstone of their ownership, as documented in the popular series Welcome to Wrexham.

Their investment in infrastructure, fan engagement, and local initiatives has revitalised both the club and the surrounding area.

With McElhenney and Reynolds at the helm, backed by a devoted fanbase and players who believe in the dream, Wrexham’s trajectory toward the Premier League looks more achievable than ever.
