Ben Doak withdraws from Scotland squad as Tommy Conway handed Euro 2024 opportunity

Exciting Scotland prodigy Ben Doak has been withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of Euro 2024.

Doak was called up among Steve Clarke's 28-man provisional squad despite not playing a competitive game since December. And it was hoped that the 18-year-old could make his mark on the competition in Germany.

But with just over a week until the opening match against the hosts, the Liverpool youngster will no longer be part of Clarke's available group.

It adds to a lengthy list of players missing the tournament with Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Lyndon Dykes, Jacob Brown and Nathan Patterson already ruled out.

Clarke has given striker Tommy Conway a late call to bolster the forward options though.

The Bristol City forward scored against Turkey for the under-21s on Tuesday and is been handed a first senior opportunity after Dykes' campaign was ended by a shock training injury last week

Conway netted 12 goals from 43 games at club level this season including a memorable FA Cup winner versus West Ham.

The 21-year-old will compete with Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland in the attack.

A Scotland statement read: "Ahead of Friday's match against Finland, Steve Clarke has called Tommy Conway into his squad.

"Sadly, Ben Doak has been withdrawn from the #EURO2024 squad through injury. Ben – we know we'll see you entertaining crowds at Hampden in a Scotland shirt soon."
