Ben Doak stuns Rangers as Celtic academy product scores Liverpool wondergoal to halt home comeback

Rangers have lost 4-3 in their UEFA Youth League Group A clash against Liverpool after a stunning solo goal by Celtic academy product Ben Doak wrecked their heroic comeback chances.

A bonkers game at Firhill started by the Light Blues falling behind, Oakley Cannonier firing the Reds ahead on Maryhill. Rangers were soon level though when Charlie Lindsay scored a penalty just two minutes after Liverpool had managed to get themselves in front after eight.

Melkamu Frauendorf then restored the away side's lead in the match another eight minutes on from the home leveller as goals rained down thick and fast. Scoring wasn't done for the first half either, as Cannonier notched his second of the day to leave Rangers with it all to do after the interval. Lee Jonas helped them with this as he pulled down Robbie Ure as he proceeded to try and score for his team, Liverpool reduced to 10 men and Arron Lyall netting soon after to half the deficit. Ure then turned home the ball into an empty net as all the momentum stood with the hosts.

Then Doak - who Celtic sold to the English Premier League giants earlier this year - stood up to shine after another impressive showing in attack.

He picked the ball up near the right-hand corner flag, providing multiple stepovers before weaving his way past another couple of bodies and firing low into the bottom corner.

This result mean Rangers can't win the group, sitting on three points with Liverpool on 12 points. Two more games are ahead against basement boys Napoli and second-placed Ajax - who are four in front of the Ibrox youngsters - before Group A comes to a close.
