Ben Doak inspires Liverpool Under-21s to big win as ex-Celtic kid scores twice and plays major role

Ben Doak was in stunning form as he inspired Liverpool's Under-21 side to an emphatic win over Leicester City.

The former Celtic youngster - who is recovering from a recent injury - played a major role as he netted twice and had a say in two other goals in an outstanding performance for the reserve side in their 7-1 triumph over the Foxes.

The Scotland Under-21 international has had a whirlwind Liverpool career to date following his move from Parkhead. Ange Postecoglou handed him top team minutes against Dundee United and Rangers but it wasn't enough to keep him in Glasgow's east end with the lure of working with Jurgen Klopp and the English Premier League too much. It's a decision that has proved right for the youngster as his impressive displays for the Reds' youth sides in the UEFA Youth League - including goals against Rangers - earned him a top team debut in the Carabao Cup against Derby County.

He then landed his EPL bow a few weeks later and has since made a number of top team appearances and featured in the squad. Doak has also penned professional terms with Liverpool with both the coaches and supporters at the club really excited about the prospect they have at their disposal.

At just 17-years-old, the former Celtic kid has a huge future in the game with Neil Lennon certain he will go on and have an excellent career.

Speaking previously in an exclusive interview with Glasgow Live Sport, he said: "He's a top talent and hopefully he will have a flourishing career. He is a very exciting player and Liverpool are top-heavy with speed merchants and Ben will come into that category as well. Not only is he quick but he is very, very good with the ball at speed."

On being a Scotland star of the future, he added: Definitely. He's already making inroads at Liverpool and that is such a high bar and he will only get better with the coaching and working with these players on a daily basis. It is one that everybody will be excited about coming forward but I think we should just let the boy breathe and develop as naturally as possible.

"I think he is in very good hands there with Liverpool. They are very good with the young players."

Taking to Instagram after the win, Doak shared an image to his stories with the caption: "Good day at the office."
