Ben Doak handed 'brilliant' tag by Liverpool legend but ex-Celtic prospect 'needs a chance to breathe'

Ben Doak needs a 'chance to breathe' before people are pushing him in to the senior squad at Scotland.

That is the view of Scotland and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish who believes the 17-year-old wonder-kid should not be fast tracked to Steve Clarke's top squad just yet. Jurgen Klopp seems to think highly of the former Celtic star as he has handed the winger five appearances for the Anfield first team so far this season.

Doak, however, suffered a nasty injury while playing for the Reds youth team and was subsequently withdrawn from Scotland's Under-21 squad for Thursday's friendly with Sweden. And Dalglish, who also famously made the move from Celtic to Anfield for a British transfer fee record of £440,000 in 1977, believes there should be no rush over the kid.

On inclusion to the Scotland senior squad, he told BBC: "It's not a Cinderella story. He'll get there eventually but let's not push him too quickly.

"The wee man has done brilliant at Liverpool. They really enjoy what he's done.

"He certainly looks the part. But give him time to settle down. For a 17-year-old to leave his home town for Liverpool, give the wee man a chance to breathe."
