Ben Doak 'close' to Liverpool transfer as Celtic teenager nears Premier League under Jurgen Klopp

Celtic youngster Ben Doak is reportedly close to sealing a move to Liverpool, as another Scottish academy talent heads outside the country.

The winger has been given first team action by manager Ange Postecoglou this season, making substitute appearances against Rangers and Dundee United.

Doak is yet to sign a professional contract with Celtic though and attracted the interest of Liverpool, as first revealed by Record Sport on January 22.

Now the Athletic reports that he's on the verge of sealing a move to the English Premier League giants, with the lure of working with Jurgen Klopp a huge factor in his decision.

The move continues a trend of Scottish youngsters being prized away early in their development, as Europe's elite look to the SPFL for up-and-coming talent.

Chelsea lured Billy Gilmour to Stamford Bridge after he came up through the Rangers youth system, and Celtic have already lost Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn to Bayern Munich.

Manchester City plucked winger Liam Smith from the Kilmarnock academy and Aston Villa signed 17-year-old Kerr Smith from Dundee United after just 10 league appearances.

Doak is believed to have been targeted by a number of elite European clubs but felt that Liverpool offered the best place for his development.
