Ben Doak breaks silence after post-match brawl leaves Liverpool youngster bloodied

Ben Doak has taken to social media to celebrate Liverpool's dramatic UEFA Youth League win as they edged out FC Porto.

The young Reds needed penalty shootouts to beat their Portuguese opponents on Wednesday as Umaro Cande missed the decisive spot-kick. Barry Lewtas' side converted the five penalties after the Scottish starlet's effort hit the post.

Neither side could be separated after 90 minutes after Melkamu Frauendorf brought Liverpool level after the visitors opened the scoring after six minutes through a controversial Jorge Meireles penalty. The win on penalties sets up a mouth-watering quarter-final away at Sporting CP after Abdul Fatawu Issahaku inspired a 5-1 win over Ajax with a treble.

However, the scenes at full-time marred the occasion for a triumphant Liverpool as a melee followed Cande's missed penalty which saw Doak leave the fracas with blood on his lip.

He didn't let it sour his mood, taking to Instagram stories to post a picture of the moment the decisive penalty was missed. It was captioned: "On to the quarters," with a grinning face with sweat and a face exhaling.

It's been a good week for the 17-year-old as he was in inspired form for the U21s in their emphatic 7-1 win over Leicester City where he scored twice and played a part in the remaining five goals.

"We work closely with the first team and our job is to develop the players, put them in an environment where they can flourish and hopefully then, with the support we have from Pep and Vitor in particular, we are able to move boys across,” Lewtas said ahead of yesterday's clash speaking to Liverpoolfc.com.

"Ben has done ever so well. It’s OK getting an opportunity and earning it but I think Ben has grabbed it and done ever so well.

"So, it’s up to him to maintain that, but he’s a real focused boy and I’m sure that he will do."
