Ben Davies: There’s never been a more exciting time to play for Tottenham

Tottenham defender Ben Davies says there is "no more exciting time" to be at the club after agreeing a new contract on Monday.

Davies has signed a one-year extension which will tie him to Spurs until 2025 and likely see the Wales international spend more than a decade in north London.

The defender joined Spurs from Swansea in 2014 and was part of Mauricio Pochettino's squad who twice challenged for the Premier League title and were beaten in the 2019 Champions League Final.

Previously a squad player, Davies has never been more important to the club than under Antonio Conte and started 26 of 27 league games after the Italian's appointment, as they returned to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

And with six new signings already through the door this summer, including Ivan Perisic and Richarlison, Davies says it is a hugely exciting time to be at the club.

"I'm delighted to sign my new contract," he told the club’s official website. "After last season and the summer the club's just had, there's no more exciting time to be at this club. I'm enjoying my football and when the opportunity from the club came to extend my contract, I was more than happy to do so.

"I've had some really enjoyable times here, it really feels like home now and the story continues. This is a significant amount of time in football, especially when a career is quite short and in football people move around a lot.

"It's an honour for me to be here and keep it going. There's still a good core of us who have been here a long time now. It's the same faces now just in the team but around the building every day. It becomes a family."

Davies is also an integral part of the Wales team which qualified for the World Cup in Qatar via a play-off win over Ukraine in June - their first appearance at a finals since 1958.

"We've brought players in that we hope will improve us as a squad and make us more competitive throughout the season," Davies continued.

"It's going to be a pretty jampacked schedule around the World Cup so we'll need everybody to play their part. It's an exciting season for both club and country. It'll be a bit strange stopping mid-season for that tournament [in November] but I can't wait. It's been a long time since Wales have been there and we've given everything to get there so we just have to enjoy it.

"We have a great group here, not just on the pitch but as a collective. It's a very exciting time and a season we're all looking forward to."
