Ben Davies relishing Rangers challenge as pressure from the fans ramps up

BEN DAVIES set out to play under intense pressures as an aspiring footballer growing up.

That’s why he is determined to fulfil his time at Rangers to its maximum potential.

The Englishman and his teammates have come under incredible scrutiny in recent weeks following some bad results and poor performances both in Europe and domestically.

While the jump in levels for Rangers’ Champions League games has been substantial, with the team being on the receiving end of several doings, Davies feels confidence is still high within the group.

The pressures of playing for a global giant like Rangers is what he wanted to achieve in his career, so this difficult period is a challenge the former Liverpool player is relishing.

He said: "I knew that this would be the case when I came here. I wanted that challenge in my life.

"Playing down the lower leagues in England you get the same back-to-back games but you don't have the same expectation there or the need to win every single week.

"When you're not here you obviously know what it's like. You can look in and see that this team needs to win and be their best every week.

"When you're in it, you're the one who's dealing with it and it's a little bit different.

"Being a footballer, you want to play in front of big crowds and have expectations. That's why I'm here and I'm relishing the challenge."

To help deal with the pressures at Rangers, Davies admits he always switches off away from football.

He added: “I like to put it to one side and let everyone else get on with talking about it.

"I like to come into work, do my job and then switch off. I don't go looking for what everyone's saying.

"I don't really go out much, to be honest. I like to go home and be with my family.

"When I was a bit younger, on social media, it was a bit like 'what's everyone up to?' or 'what's everyone been saying?', but you can't go into that. When you get older you realise that and you don't need to.”
