Ben Davies Rangers injury update as Michael Beale delivers Robby McCrorie verdict with Celtic next

Michael Beale has delivered an injury update on Ben Davies as he gave his verdict on Robby McCrorie's Rangers performance.

The former Liverpool defender - signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst last summer - has been a mainstay in the Rangers defence beside Connor Goldson since finding his way back to full fitness after initially struggling on his arrival at the club. He was once again pitched in from the off against Aberdeen with John Souttar the back up option from the bench.

But Beale had to make that switch before the half-time as Davies looked to have overstretched as he chased back to try close down Aberdeen attacker Duk as he raced through on goal at Ibrox. On the situation as things stand, Beale said: "I think it might a slight problem with his hamstring. We will assess it in the next 24 hours and see.

"I thought Ben actually started the game well. I thought John came on and done very well as well."

McCrorie was handed the gloves for the first time this campaign and made a huge save with the game level to deny in-form Duk. The 25-year-old has had a few injuries of late but impressed his boss as he looks to make a play for the No1 spot.

Whether he retains his place against Celtic is yet to be determined but Beale believes he wouldn't be phased playing an Old Firm having previously experienced once.

He added: “Robby had a really strong performance and the save earlier in the game came at a big moment. He looked really assured having not played for so long so fair play to him for getting a clean sheet.

“I spoke to Robby the first week I came in and there is an element of trust there. He has had a couple of injuries but he has been over-ready for a while now.

“We have three good keepers including a young one who needs exposure and an opportunity. He wants the chance to show he is a really good goalkeeper. I see him every day and we are on the same page.

“The last Old Firm game he played I was there with him as well. I don't think he will be phased playing in an Old Firm game."
