Ben Davies in Rangers injury sweat as Gio van Bronckhorst faces mounting Ibrox defensive crisis

Rangers defender Ben Davies is being assessed for an injury following the Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes of the 7-1 hammering as he faced off against his former side, but reportedly suffered an injury during the Group A showdown with Jurgen Klopp's men. The Athletic report that the 27-year-old "felt muscle tightness during the game but did not want to come off," having notched his fourth start in a row after struggling for fitness early in his Ibrox career.

It leaves Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst with a major injury headache heading into the Scottish Premiership clash with Motherwell on Sunday, with Record Sport earlier revealing Connor Goldson is set to be on the sidelines for a number of months with a suspected severe thigh muscle tear that was also picked up during the Liverpool game. John Souttar is also not expected back until after the World Cup, while Filip Helander has been a long-term absentee.

That would leave Leon King as the only fit centre-back option for the clash at Fir Park. Both James Sands and John Lundstram have deputised in the position previously.
