Ben Davies dreaming of Rangers cup double ahead of St Johnstone clash

BEN DAVIES was never smitten south of the border as the romance of the cup largely passed him by during his time in England.

Now the defender is determined to continue his knock-out love affair with Rangers as Michael Beale's side dream of a Hampden double this term.

Victory over Aberdeen last weekend saw Rangers progress to the Viaplay Cup final and a mouthwatering Old Firm showdown with Celtic now awaits next month.

All the focus is on the present at Ibrox, though, as Beale attempts to lead his side into the next round of the Scottish Cup by overcoming St Johnstone.

Rangers were humbled in Perth during the final stages of Giovanni van Bronckhorst's reign as boss but are now in a buoyant mood and have silverware in their sights under Beale's guidance.

"Yeah looking forward to it," Davies, who turned out for the likes of York City and Fleetwood Town before moving to Ibrox from Preston North End in the summer, said. "Another cup competition and a chance to win a trophy as well so looking forward to it.

"In a word, no [I have not had much cup success before]. I’ve had a few cup runs but in England, it’s difficult for clubs like that to get a cup run going so it’s good to be in this competition and be in with a chance of progressing.

"It’s really exciting. When you come up here you want to win trophies and Saturday is the first step to getting that run going in this one.

"We want to win every game and win every trophy. [It is] a good chance to start that.

"We’re in a good run of form. We have been going a goal behind but we still feel confident in the team that we’re going to bounce back and win the game.

"It’s another game at the end of a long week but we’re looking at getting to the next round and carrying on this form."
