Ben Davies Celtic transfer options reemerges as Liverpool cut their losses while Parkhead defensive issues mount

Former Celtic target Ben Davies has been made available for transfer at Liverpool this summer, according to reports.

The 26-year-old looked set for a move to the Scottish Premiership before he left Preston for Anfield in January 2021.

However, the £1.6million move to the English Premier League hasn't worked out for Davies and he has not kicked a ball for the club in a competitive game.

He was named on the Liverpool bench eight times last season after his loan spell at Sheffield United was cut short due to injury, and Jurgen Klopp appears keen to move the defender on.

The Liverpool Echo report that Davies will be among a host of players leaving the English Double-winners this summer.

That could open the door to Celtic reviving their interest, with the prospect of a centre-back crisis facing Ange Postecoglou heading into pre-season.

Carl Starfelt has left the Sweden squad to return for Lennoxtown for assessment after picking up a knock during the Nations League clash with Slovenia.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers permanent transfer not yet rubber stamped, that leaves Stephen Welsh and out of favour Christoper Jullien aa the two centre-back options at Parkhead.

A move north of the border for Davies could benefit both the player and Celtic with the club looking to add depth in their bid to defend the Premiership title and make a mark on the Champions League group stage.
