Ben Davies and the Rangers transfer intricacies as Liverpool point to Connor Goldson 'framework' in price tag

Liverpool chiefs have used moves for Filip Helander and Connor Goldson to Rangers as examples of how they hope to move on Ben Davies.

The 26-year-old is free to leave Anfield 18 months after his emergency transfer from Preston having never played a first-team game for last season's Champions League finalists. Before joining Jurgen Klopp's side, the versatile defender has been set to join Celtic and £1.6million move to the English Premier League hasn't worked out for Davies and he has not kicked a ball for the club in a competitive game.

Gio van Bronckhorst is now seeking reinforcements to his squad with Calvin Bassey on the brink of a move to Amsterdam within the next 24 hours, and reports suggest the Europa League finalists are keen on a move for Davies as they look to see off Blackburn Rovers and Burnley to land a deal. Celtic, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United have also been tipped for a move for forgotten Davies.

Liverpool have reportedly left the door wide open for an exit this summer, with the Liverpool Echo stating an exit could be imminent after Davies was left out of Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia. The report suggests that the Anfield higher-ups want to ship the player out permanently, after a loan stint at Sheffield United last term.

The decision makers on Merseyside have also set their asking price at £4million. Club bosses have used Rangers business with Brighton and Bologna when signing Goldson and Helander in 2018 and 2019 as a "framework" for the fee.

The club would be willing to receive the fee in add-ons. It is reported that "such a package would have to be incentivised to reach such a potential figure rather than it being guaranteed" with the club desperate to move Davies on this summer.

Outgoing Bassey has landed in Amsterdam as he gets set to put the finishing touches on his £19m plus add-ons deal with Eredivise champions. Gio van Bronckhorst will be keen to reinvest the cash quickly with Champions League qualifiers just around the corner.
