Chelsea's win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League was overshadowed by a late injury to England left-back Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell got through 93 minutes of Chelsea's 2-1 win over the Croatian side before pulling up in injury-time. The defender immediately clutched his left hamstring before collapsing to the turf in pain.
England begin their World Cup campaign against Iran on November 21 in Qatar. Chilwell would have been in contention for the left-back spot in Gareth Southgate's team, alongside Manchester United's Luke Shaw.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter gave an update in his post-match interview. "Yeah, it doesn't look positive," he told BT Sport. "It's a hamstring and we'll have to scan it and see how it is."
Former England and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole gave his reaction to it at full-time. "It's a horrible sight for Ben. I feel his pain," Cole said on BT Sport.
"I had problems at the back end of my career and it's just heartbreaking.
"As soon as it happens there's a shooting pain and to be this close to the World Cup, you know the best you can hope for is two to three weeks before you can get back on the grass. It's really tough."
Former England manager Glenn Hoddle also reacted on BT Sport. "Sometimes with a hamstring you get a warning sign," he said. "It goes into a little contraction and that's when you put your hand up.
"But that one there just went. His face went you could see. He just turns the ball over on the outside and he grimaced, he was in real pain. That one looks like a nasty one."
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand added: "It's so unfortunate for any player to have an injury but for someone who has had injuries prior to this it's so disheartening. I'm sure he will come back from it though."
Chilwell has won 17 caps for England since making his debut in 2018, scoring one goal. The 25-year-old was making his 13th appearance of the season for Chelsea - the club he joined for £45million from Leicester City in July 2020.
He previously suffered a serious knee injury, rupturing his cruciate ligament in his knee back in November 2021.
