Chelsea have confirmed Ben Chilwell has extended his contract by a further two years.
The 26-year-old’s existing deal was set to expire in 2025, and Manchester City were among the clubs interested in a move for the left-back had he decided to leave Stamford Bridge.
However, Chilwell has now committed his future at Chelsea through to 2027, and will be one of the club’s highest earners after penning a new £200,000-a-week deal.
“I feel very settled at Chelsea and have really enjoyed my time on the pitch here so I’m very pleased the club want me to be part of the project long-term, and am very happy to sign this extension to my contract,” Chilwell told Chelsea’s official website.
“We are working hard for success and I will do my best to bring more smiles to the faces of the fans who have made me feel so welcome.”
It has been a frustrating season on the whole for the defender, who missed the World Cup with a hamstring injury that he picked up deep into stoppage-time against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League earlier this season.
Chilwell has made only 11 Premier League starts this season, but has been one of Chelsea’s best players in recent weeks and he will hope Frank Lampard’s return to the dugout will see him preferred to Marc Cucurella between now and the end of the campaign.
