Ben Chilwell agrees new Chelsea contract after Man City interest

Ben Chilwell is set to extend his stay at Chelsea by a further two years after a breakthrough in contract talks.

The 26-year-old is expected to snub Manchester City, who were keen on the left-back, and agree to stay at Stamford Bridge until 2027.

The news is a boost for Chelsea ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first leg at Real Madrid tomorrow.

The England international has overcome his recent injuries after having surgery on his knee last season and missing the World Cup with a pulled hamstring.

Chilwell came off the bench to replace Marc Cucurella in caretaker manager Frank Lampard's return match against Wolves on Saturday. He may get the nod to start at the Bernabeu after an underwhelming display by Cucurella in the 1-0 defeat at Molineux.

N'Golo Kante, who is also in advanced talks over a new contract, trained alongside Mason Mount and Thiago Silva yesterday. Kante and Mount are expected to be fit to face Carlo Ancelotti's side, but the match may come too soon for Silva after nearly two months out with a knee problem.

The Boehly-Clearlake regime remains busy securing talent and has signalled its intent to make Joao Felix's loan move from Atletico Madrid permanent.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique remain frontrunners for the vacant manager's job after their representatives were contacted by Chelsea's staff. They will be asked for their recruitment ideas in an extensive process to find a club-building manager who is comfortable with a 'collaborative approach' under the owners and sporting directors.
