Belleair Beach Mayor Dave Gattis has issued a warning to residents as Hurricane Milton approaches the area, emphasizing that it is not too late to seek shelter. Gattis expressed significant concerns about the community of Belleair Beach, which is still in the process of recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

The city, home to approximately 1,600 full-time residents, is situated directly on the Gulf of Mexico to the south of Clearwater. Gattis highlighted the challenges faced by the residents, noting that despite efforts to clear most of the debris left by Helene, about a quarter of the trash still remains on the streets.

Residents urged to seek shelter due to potential dangers of the storm.

He urged residents who have not yet evacuated to consider seeking shelter in safer locations across Pinellas County, where numerous public shelters are available.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Gattis encouraged residents to take immediate action by leaving the area and finding refuge in designated shelters. He underscored the importance of prioritizing safety and preparedness in the face of the impending storm.
