Bella Hadid 'loved alcohol' but says lack of 'control' made her quit drinking

Bella Hadid has admitted that she decided to quit drinking as she couldn't "control" herself when she drank alcohol.

The model, 25, gave up alcohol six months ago and says that she now feels better because of it.

While she is the co-founder and partner of a non-alcoholic brand, she described how her doctors showing her the effects of alcohol is also making her not miss it.

Speaking to InStyle, Bella said: "I have done my fair share of drinking. I loved alcohol and it got to the point where even I started to, you know, cancel nights out that I felt like I wouldn’t be able to control myself."

She continued: "I don’t feel the need [to drink anymore] because I know how it will affect me at three in the morning when I wake up with horrible anxiety thinking about that one thing I said five years ago when I graduated high school.

"There’s just this never-ending effect of, essentially, you know, pain and stress over those few drinks that didn’t really do much, you know?"

Her admission follows her comments in which she described suffering "excruciating" pain during "depressive episodes".

She had previously opened up to fans about having experienced "breakdowns and burnouts" in a post she shared with her 48 million followers on Instagram last year.

In her post from November she included selfies of her in an emotional state, including one in which tears were seen running down her face.

The award-winning model said at the time she has "good days," where she doesn't feel depressed and has less anxiety, but also revealed that the next day she could feel "the complete opposite."

And now speaking to the Wall Street Journal, she's spoken about how she would send photos to her mother - former the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid, 58 - during "depressive episodes".

She said: "I would have really depressive episodes and my mom or my doctor would ask how I was and instead of [...] respond in text, I would just send them a photo."

Bella explained how she felt it was the easiest way to express herself at the time as she "never able to explain how [she] was feeling".

She continued: "I would just be in excruciating and debilitating mental and physical pain, and I didn't know why. That was over the past three years."
