Belgium make Romelu Lukaku World Cup decision amid Eden Hazard injury as Chelsea transfer waits

Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku has been included in Belgium's squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The striker has been fighting with fitness issues throughout this season and has only played five matches so far, scoring twice.

The 29-year-old is the all-time top scorer for his country but couldn't make things work out in a fairytale return to Stamford Bridge last season and has since been sent back to his favoured Inter Milan following a falling out with Thomas Tuchel.

Todd Boehly is still keen to resolve the solution and could turn to a permanent sale of the forward, but that may well rely on him having a good tournament in Qatar.

Lukaku has 68 goals in 102 international matches and scored four goals in five at Euro 2020 as well. His World Cup record is impressive too. At Russia 2018 he got four goals but failed to score in the three knockout games, he also got one in 2014 too.

Roberto Martinez has risked his fitness to include him in a group that also sees former Blues Eden and Thorgan Hazard alongside Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne and Michy Batshuayi.

Hazard has struggled for gametime, fitness and form with his club since leaving to join Real Madrid in 2019 but still remains international captain and will be hoping to remain injury free during the tournament.

Also worth noting is Brighton's Leandro Trossard, who Chelsea are keen to sign. The winger scored against Graham Potter's men two weeks ago in a 4-1 hammering.

Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Simon Mignolet (Club Brugge), Koen Casteels (VfL Wolfsburg).

Defenders: Jan Vertonghen (Anderlecht), Toby Alderweireld (Royal Antwerp), Wout Faes (Leicester), Arthur Theate (Rennes), Zeno Debast (Anderlecht), Thomas Meunier (Borussia Dortmund), Timothy Castagne (Leicester).

Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), Youri Tielemans (Leicester), Amadou Onana (Everton), Axel Witsel (Atletico Madrid), Hans Vanaken (Club Brugge), Leander Dendoncker (Aston Villa), Yannick Carrasco (Atletico Madrid), Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Dortmund).

Forwards: Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), Charles De Ketelaere (AC Milan), Leandro Trossard (Brighton), Dries Mertens (Galatasaray), Jeremy Doku (Rennes), Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan), Michy Batshuayi (Fenerbahce), Lois Openda (Lens).
