A PSNI spokesperson added: "Please seek an alternative route for your journey if you can."

Meanwhile, the Met Office says a weather warning is likely to cause disruption to parts of Northern Ireland on Monday.

An alert for heavy rain and winds, is in place from 6pm this evening through to midnight. The yellow warning covers coastal areas in Co Down, including Downpatrick, Newcastle and Donaghadee.

Issuing the alert this morning, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A short period of very heavy rain and squally winds likely to cause some disruption [tonight].

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Bus and train services will probably be affected with journey times taking longer.

"Spray and temporary flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible."
