Belfast theatre company announce immersive muscial production inspired by The Great Gatsby

A local musical theatre company is set to transport audiences back to 1920 this summer with their new immersive production.

Belfast Operatic are bringing their own brand to a bespoke musical production to the newly refurbished Hilton Hotel, Belfast on May 7 and 8.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's book, 'The Great Gatsby', the show will invite you to party as the story unfolds around you throughout the course of an evening, including a three-course meal.

With a script inspired by the book, writer/director Gary Redpath said: "Immersive theatre events of this style are hugely popular in London, but not often embarked on here.

"We have brought together all the elements of our usual musical theatre productions and taken them off a traditional stage.

"The show will be performed in the round, which gives the cast the freedom to move the action into the audience where appropriate, making the audience as much a part of the show as the actors."

He continued: "We've taken a classic story and given it the Baz Luhrmann treatment, using everything from modern pop songs to older classics and everything in between - and of course with this style in mind, audiences are encouraged to dress up and get in the 1920s mood."

Featuring songs from the world of pop, film and musical theatre, with everything from Lady Gaga to Nat King Cole and Britney Spears - from Kiss Me Kate to Moulin Rouge, the 40 strong company of actors sing and dance their way through the roaring twenties.

Following two years of no live events, the company is hugely excited to be embarking on a new style of event, which promises to entertain and enthral audiences in attendance.

Fresh from their sell-out production of 'A Christmas Carol' in November at the Grand Opera House, the award-winning company has been working hard to put their touch on this new immersive show.

Written specifically for audiences at a refurbished Hilton Hotel, this unique adaptation of Fitzgerald's classic story is one not to miss.
