Belfast students' devastation after university house ransacked and thousands worth of belongings stolen

A Belfast student is offering a cash reward for the return of items which were stolen during a burglary at his home on Wednesday.

Finn, 23, originally from Co Tyrone, is living in Belfast as a final year student at Ulster University and was stunned to find his home ransacked this morning.

Thousands of pounds worth of electronics and jewellery were stolen from the property on Deacon Street in North Belfast.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Finn said: "This has happened only a couple of hours ago. My girlfriend was going down stairs in the house to go onto an online university class and she came up to me and said her laptop was gone.

"We both went down and discovered that my laptop was also gone. I am studying photography and they also took my camera and other equipment like headphones.

"My girlfriend is studying psychology and she has now lost her laptop with all of her notes on it. We are devastated.

"My housemate phoned to also say the front and back doors had been left open. We think whoever done this came through a window. They turned one of the rooms upside down trying to find stuff. The place was a mess."

Finn says his parents are willing to give a cash reward for the items to be brought back to them.

"We won't ask any questions," he added.

"I just want all of our stuff back. I don't want to take it further as long as we get it back. The work that we have done, that is on those laptops, that can never be replaced. It is hours and hours of work."

Items stolen:

  • Lenovo Yoga 9i and charger;
  • Lenovo Thinkpad covered in Supreme/car stickers and charger;
  • Canon 70d with a 50mm lens and a kit 18-55mm and charger;
  • Copies of Silent Hill 2 Directors Cut, Silent Hill 3 for PS2 and Final Fantasy 7 for PS1;
  • Bose QC15 with a wireless adaptor
  • Jewellery including Vivienne Westwood pieces.

A PSNI spokesperson appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area overnight, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 447 of 23/03/2022.
