Belfast student nurse's phone taken as she performed CPR to elderly woman on the street

A student nurse has appealed for the return of her phone after it was taken while she performed CPR to an elderly woman.

Seanan O'Halloran was out with her friend on the Falls Road on Sunday evening when she noticed the lady had collapsed while crossing the road.

The 20-year-old, from West Belfast, is currently in her second year of Nursing at Ulster University, and says her instincts kicked in as soon as she saw someone in need of help.

"I was at the Go Garage on the Falls Road with my friend and I saw the lady crossing the road and then she just collapsed," she told Belfast Live.

"My instincts kicked in and I ran over to her and she was taking a seizure. I had turned her onto her side and supported her head while she was seizing.

"I was checking her pockets to see if she had an EpiPen or anything on her, as I wasn't sure if she had diabetes or epilepsy or if this was a one-off episode.

"When she stopped seizing, she was unresponsive. Her lips were blue and she was very pale. There was no pulse so I started CPR.

"Another girl phoned the ambulance while I performed CPR until she came round, and she did. The ambulance then arrived and I helped them put an ECG on to her. I then helped them put her on to a stretcher and into the vehicle."

Seanan says as this was unfolding, crowds of people gathered around them, and when the ambulance left, she noticed her phone was missing.

Holding sentimental photos oh her grandparents and documents of important university work, Seanan says she is devastated that her phone was lifted.

"I had set it beside me while I was doing CPR, and then it was just gone," she added.

"There is a lot on my phone that is important to me, photos of family that are precious to me.

"I was disgusted to be honest. I don't know if it was taken on purpose or not, but I thought at this stage, one day later, someone would reach out.

"The phone has been switched off, I have tried to call. I just want the phone back. I just hope someone does the right thing and hands the phone in. I just wanted to help someone, and while I was doing that, my phone was lifted by someone."

Seanan's mum Christine spoke to Belfast Live about the pride she has for her young daughter.

"I am so proud of her, I a really am," she said.

"She is an inspiration to me and I raised her on my own, which makes me just so proud. She has done so well and continues to do well.

"Everybody had been texting and calling me to praise her. I am gutted for her that her phone has been taken. She is shattered.

"Another nurse who was passing by, she is a midwife in the Royal Victoria Hospital and she got in contact to say Seanan was a credit to me, that she saved that woman's life.

"We just hope this lady is doing well today and hope that someone who knows anything about the phone to please get in touch.

"There are so many memories on that phone. If someone took the phone on purpose, that is the lowest of the low, to take a young girl's phone while she tried to save someone's life."

Seanan's phone is a red iPhone and her wallpaper is a picture of her friend's baby.
