Belfast star Jude Hill, 11 promises to be US actress Sofia Carson’s date at Oscars

Eleven-year-old Jude Hill promised to be US actress Sofia Carson’s date for the night as the pair met on the red carpet.

“I was most looking forward to seeing you actually, I was hoping I would run into you and here we are,” he told her, speaking on ABC’s On The Red Carpet.

The young Belfast star then gave the actress a kiss on the cheek.

Belfast's director Sir Kenneth Branagh has attended the Oscars in person, after missing several award ceremonies earlier this week due to testing positive for Covid-19. Speaking to ABC’s On The Red Carpet that it was “beautiful to see a Belfast story speak to the world.”

Sir Kenneth added he was “delighted” to be nominated in a record-breaking seven categories at this year’s awards but “more delighted to be here.”

Ciaran Hinds promised he did not “sell my soul to the devil” in order to land a part in Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast.

“I don’t know how I deserved it, or why I deserved it. I didn’t sell my soul to the devil,” he told ABC’s On The Red Carpet.

“But to be honoured by Ken to ask me to play his grandfather and then to throw Judi Dench (in), the great dame…it’s beyond compare.

“She’s a remarkable human being as well as a great actress.

“We had a great time very gently working out our relationship which ended up with her suffering me while I loved her.”

Hinds is nominated for best supporting actor Oscar for his role in the film.
