Belfast restaurant Agra Indian Cuisine takes on the Foodie Five

Restaurant menus can be overwhelming, not least in Indian restaurants where you can often be faced with dozens of dishes, both familiar and unfamiliar.

That's why we thought we would give you a hand with the Belfast Live Foodie Five.

It's simple, we catch up with a chef from one of Belfast's top eateries and they pick a dish for each of five different categories. We've mixed it up a little this time:

1. Starving

2. Veggie

3. Meat lover

4. Spice lover

5. Gluten-free

Handily located on Bridge Street in Belfast city centre, Agra Indian Cuisine is inspired by the exotic flavours of the ancient city Agra, which lies along the banks of Yamuna river in northern India.

We asked head chef Azad Miah to talk us through his Foodie Five.

Starving – Mango murgh makhani

Tender strips of grilled chicken, enriched in butter, almonds, cream, yoghurt and mango.

"If anybody is very hungry, that will be very suitable for them," says Azad.

"The dish has a creamy, sweet and buttery mango flavour. It's quite rich and filling."

Veggie - Mixed vegetable paneer

Mild curry with paneer cheese.

"Paneer is our homemade cottage cheese - we make it ourselves," Azad reveals.

"Customers can try any dish with paneer - masala paneer, mixed vegetable paneer, chicken curry with paneer, korma paneer.

"Mixed vegetable paneer is a lightly spiced curry - not hot at all."

Meat lover - Tandoori mixed platter

A grand mixture of grilled tikkas, kebabs, king prawn and lamb chop.

"It's a feel-good dish that comes with a vegetable curry side dish and fresh salad," Azad says.

"We do everything fresh - it's never bought frozen. The chicken, meat and vegetables are very fresh."

Spice lover - Garlic chilli tikka

A spicy dish with generous amounts of fresh garlic, onions and ginger, garnished with coriander.

"This dish comes Madras-hot with green pepper, red pepper, green chilli and a good garlic flavour," Azad explains.

"If you like it spicy, you'll like this one."

Gluten-free - Agra special biryani

Consists of tender sliced chicken, lamb and prawns.

"We do loads of biryani but this is our Agra special biryani," says the head chef.

"The rice is cooked with the meat. It's a very nice, tasty dish and comes with a vegetable curry dish and salad."
