Belfast parrot orders himself a takeaway in perfect Northern Ireland accent

A hilarious video showing a Belfast parrot ordering himself a takeaway has gone viral this week.

Kelo the parrot's owner Linda Corry shared a video on TikTok showing her beloved pet ordering a Chinese in a perfect Northern Irish accent.

It has since been viewed more than 500,000 times and has more than 70,000 likes on the video sharing app in just a few days.

The video shows Kelo the African Grey parrot mimicking the sound of a phone ringing, before saying "Hello mate" and placing an order for "chicken rice."

Speaking to Belfast Live, Linda said Kelo started speaking in a Northern Irish accent at a young age and has been amusing the family ever since.

She added: "Kelo is eight-years-old and he's been doing the accent all that time. He's just like us.

"He has nearly 120,000 followers now on his Facebook page. It's crazy to see for a wee bird.

"I think what makes it even more funny for people is his Belfast accent. He copies everything we do, he speaks just like we do."

Linda said she and Kelo are able to have conversations and that they've formed a strong bond over the years.

"My dad died and I couldn't cope, which is the reason I got Kelo. We have a really special bond due to that," she added.

"I would have a full conversation with him, whatever you say he'll say something back. I live between the City Hospital and the Royal Hospital so he mimics all the ambulance noises and he'd copy any phone calls whenever people are calling the house.

"The airfryer is the worst though, every time we turn it on to use it he copies the noise.

"We always just have a laugh with him. He's just like a wee person to me, he's like a child. Anywhere I go, he follows. He's not like a normal pet, it's different as he's able to communicate with me so well."

Commenters on Linda's TikTok video were shocked to see Kelo placing the takeaway order so naturally and clearly.

One commenter said: "Shocks me how smart these animals are," with another saying "you could never have any secrets with Kelo around...we even know what you had for dinner!"
