Belfast Live readers help find couple snapped in beautiful Cathedral Quarter photo

A Larne couple have said they were delighted to find out they'd been snapped in a beautiful candid shot in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.

Graham and Andrene Rennie had been in the city for a friend's birthday celebrations and had been making their way to get a train home.

Unbeknownst to them, they wandered across a photo of Commercial Court that Belfast DJ Sam Baker was taking and the result was a beautiful photo of them amidst the colours.

It was through Belfast Live's story appealing to find the couple in the photo that Graham and Andrene became aware of it.

They've since been in touch with Sam and have been able to get the photo sent to them, something Graham said they're very grateful for.

"Andrene's friend, it was her birthday and we were out for the day, but it was getting late and we wanted to get home to see our boys, so that picture was us heading for the train," he said.

"We had no idea there was a picture even being taken, totally oblivious to what was going on but it was a nice surprise when we were tagged in it.

"We never have pictures of ourselves either, the phones are full of photos of the boys just, so now we've one of ourselves.

"We probably will get it framed, it's very candid and spontaneous.

"Every other picture where you know it's being taken, you lay it on very thick with the smiles and all don't you?".

Graham said it was a very strange moment when people began contacting them about the photo.

"We got sent a few screenshots while we were feeding the boys lunch saying, 'Is that you?'.

"And we went and had a look and were like, 'That is us aye!'

"It was surreal to be honest, you don't really expect to see those kind of things, when you're on Belfast Live, everyone is looking at it you know?"

He added that they had been particularly pleased to see how positively people had engaged with the quest to find them.

"It's definitely one to keep and it was really nice that Sam went out of his way to make sure that we could see it," he said.

"Or else it probably would have sat on a camera roll somewhere, so it was definitely very thoughtful of him, so we just wanted to say thanks very much as well.

"You see a lot of news stories and not that they're negative, but it's just bad news, disasters and travesties and I'm not saying it about us particularly, but it's nice to see something like this pop up, it's nice to read something nice really."

For his part, Sam said he was delighted at how quickly his appeal had been picked up and he said it showed that people are still interested in positive stories.

"Sometimes social media can be a negative space, but then you look at the power of Belfast Live sharing that article and the positive comments around Belfast," he said.

"Especially when everyone is down with the cost-of-living and all that, it's nice to see a bit of positivity around the city, the journalism and just that wholesome story.

"He messaged me saying someone had sent a link to the Belfast Live article to him and he must have just typed my name into Facebook, saw I was a DJ on my work profile and that's how he found me.

"You had put that article up and within half an hour he was able to find me."
