Belfast football clubs team up to support boy with rare condition

Two youth football clubs have teamed up to raise money for a young boy who has a rare muscle-wasting disease.

Niall McCahey was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2016 and since then his family have been campaigning for treatment and a cure.

The eight-year-old is football mad and involved with Andersonstown Community FC who have joined up with Linfield Academy to organise a night of fundraising friendlies in aid of Niall.

The games will be played at Midgley Park on Tuesday, May 3. There will be three fixtures on the night involving various age groups from both clubs.

Also on the night there will be a barbecue, football games, signed shirt raffle and other prizes, with all money going to Niall's treatment which involves attending a clinic in the USA with access to therapeutic treatment that could change his life.

Niall has to travel to America every three months to receive infusions, which cost in the region of $8.000-12,000 each visit.

Linfield said: "We would like to encourage all Linfield and indeed football fans in the local area to tend this event if possible.

"Not only is it a chance to donate money to Niall's fight but it's also a chance to see a few talented Linfield Academy teams in action for a good cause.

"Keep fighting Niall, we are all right behind you."
