A man has been rushed to hospital following a suspected car explosion in south Belfast, said police.
The man is receiving treatment for facial injuries, while police and Ammunition Technical Officers remain on the scene in the Newton Park area of city.
Cordons are in place which are expected to remain overnight and a number of homes have been evacuated in the area by emergency services.
Members of the public have also been asked to avoid the area.
Police South Belfast tweeted: "We are currently at the scene of a security alert in the Newton Park area. One man has been taken to hospital. Cordons are expected to remain in place overnight and a number of homes have been evacuated."
The man is believed to have suffered his injuries from an explosion inside a car and police are appealing to the public for information.
A police statement read: "Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in the Newton Park area of south Belfast. It is believed at this time that there was an explosion within a car.
"One man was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries. Ammunition Technical Officers are currently in attendance.
"The Newton Park area will remain closed overnight. Cordons are currently in place and a number of homes have been evacuated. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
"Other roads closed include Ballymaconaghy Road, Manse Road and Cairnshill Road. There are no further details at this time. Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 2055 19/08/22."
