Belarus' President announced that his country is currently hosting several dozen Russian tactical nuclear weapons and is making arrangements for the deployment of Moscow's latest hypersonic ballistic missile. This development follows a recent treaty signed between Belarus and Russia, providing security assurances to Belarus, including the potential use of Russian nuclear weapons in defense.

The revised Russian nuclear doctrine now includes Belarus under its nuclear umbrella, amid heightened tensions with the West over the Ukraine conflict. The Belarusian President emphasized a swift and decisive response to any aggression near their borders.

Belarus has allowed Russia to station troops in its territory for operations in Ukraine and to host tactical nuclear weapons. These tactical weapons are designed for battlefield use and are distinct from intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The Belarusian President revealed that his country currently houses several dozen nuclear warheads, which have been brought in without detection by Western powers. Joint nuclear drills between Russian and Belarusian forces have taken place, involving Iskander short-range ballistic missiles and nuclear-capable warplanes.

The deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus enhances Russia's military capabilities in the region, enabling quicker access to potential targets in Ukraine and neighboring NATO countries. Plans are underway to deploy advanced weapons, including the Oreshnik intermediate range ballistic missile, in Belarus by the second half of 2025.

The Oreshnik missile, with its multiple warheads and high speed, is considered highly effective and difficult to intercept. Russian authorities have indicated that the use of such advanced weapons reduces the necessity for nuclear strikes.

Russia's updated nuclear doctrine allows for a lower threshold for the use of nuclear weapons in response to various threats, including aggression against Russia and its allies. The doctrine emphasizes the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

These recent developments underscore the evolving military dynamics in Eastern Europe and the strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia in the realm of nuclear defense.
